Connection.
“People are never too young or too old to look for human connection.” - John Turturro
Welcome to Barn Talk. This first post communicates what we wish to accomplish with this blog. We’re so happy you are reading it, and we are going to do our best to keep things both informative and entertaining. If this one feels a bit dry, trust that it’ll get more interesting.
This won’t be a space where we wax poetic, it will instead be a space where we can all connect. But of course, we will do our best to keep it fun. Maybe we’ll talk about what’s going on at the Barn, or books we’ve read and loved, or we might share upcoming events and sales. It’s a space for us to share important updates, too. We will be sharing for both the Book Barn and the Bargain Barn, so you’ve got everything here in one spot.
Being a sucker for learning and using new words, we might start peppering this space with the origin of intriguing words (think “gobsmacked” gob·smacked /ˈɡäbˌsmakt/ adjective informal•British utterly astonished; astounded via Oxford Languages).
It’s our hope that you will come here to feel connected to us, and stay longer than you might on a social media post. It’s a place you can return to and scroll through with ease. And our favorite part is that you can comment below our posts and let us know how you feel about them.
We will be posting volunteer profiles from time to time too, so you can get to know the background of the people (our Book Barn Baddies) you see in the shop. We will also post about our customers that are featured on social media.
Is this how we create community in an online world? It’s worth a shot.
Thank you for reading! We are grateful for you.
